| Deep Drivers Golf Club
Mission Statement |
|
| Introduction | |
| Deep Drivers Golf Club was founded in 1997 in Oakland California with four main goals in mind. First, to teach and enforce the uniformity of the game of golf and amateurism through proper use and interpretation of the rules as they are set forth by the United States Golf Association (USGA). Second, to promote and foster among its members an appreciation of the true spirit of game. Third, to maintain a uniform system of handicapping to prepare its members for amateur status and tournament play, and, fourth, to transform every single member from weekend hackers to single digit handicap golfers. | |
| Why Join an NCGA Golf Club? | |
| The main benefit of joining any golf club is the Equitable Handicap System. This is the system that provides all amateur golfers with a handicap index, which will in turn allow you to play in any official amateur tournament event. Handicap indexes place all players, regardless of ability, on the same level and are adjusted as skill levels change. This Handicap System is administered by the NCGA (Northern California Golf Association) in cooperation with the USGA (United States Golf Association). The "ONLY" way to have an official handicap index is to belong to a golf club that is affiliated with an umbrella organization. Individuals cannot register without club affiliation. Other member benefits include discounted green fees at the NCGA’s two home courses, Poppy Hills in Monterey and Poppy Ridge in Livermore. | |
| Why Join Deep Drivers Golf Club? | |
| Deep Drivers was created by people who are
friends and share the common passion for the game of golf. The
club includes members from all walks of life and, therefore, provides
valuable networking opportunities. It also puts you in immediate contact
with other golf lovers. We currently have a membership of 70 golfers.
In addition to the goals set forth in the introduction, another goal is to play golf the way it is meant to be played. To accomplish this, we are very serious about the game. As I am sure you already know, golf is an exciting and fun game, and at the same time very challenging and frustrating. It is cerebral and athletic, it is a gentlemen’s game, where honor and proper etiquette are more important than your ability and talent. It is a game where your word is the most valuable entity you can possess. It should be your goal to not only learn the rules of golf, but also the manners of golf such as being prompt for your tee time, keeping silent while a fellow golfer is preparing to hit, immediately leaving the green once your group has holed out and most importantly, maintaining the proper pace to your round, which should be no more than 15 minutes per hole or 4 and 1/2 hours per round. These are all areas that are stressed by our club. There is also a friendly, yet, competitive element to our tournaments. No one wants to lose, especially, to their friends. Borrowing a quote from Tiger Woods "Let’s face it, Second Sucks". |

| How Will Handicap Indexes Be Calculated, Established and Tracked? | |
| The Handicap Index is the most
vital piece of your amateur status. For fair and equitable treatment of
all players, the Index System must be administered correctly by all. You
will need to post a minimum of 5 rounds before your handicap can be
issued by the NCGA. Subsequent to this initial handicap, your
index will be updated after each round played. You should post your
scores at the Golf Course where you play. Nearly every golf course in
Northern California has terminals for posting your scores. Your
handicap will be calculated automatically by the NCGA and updated during
the 1st week of each month.
Note: Until you receive your NCGA card and member number, you will not be able to post your scores into the computer system. You will need to keep your detailed course scorecards with total scores and dates and then post your scores once you receive your membership. |
