Match Play 2010 Tournament

Handicap Singles Match Play:

1.      Important: Players will be responsible for scheduling where and when their matches are to be played.  If players cannot mutually agree upon a course for their match, the default course will be Poppy Ridge.  All match expiration dates are on a Monday for greater flexibility.  The participants must complete their match on or before the scheduled date.  The winner takes on the responsibility of entering the match play final score on the web site entry screen before the end of the expiration date.  If the match is not completed within the scheduled time, both players will forfeit.

2.       This will all work out fine if we are all fair, responsible, considerate, and don’t wait until the last minute to play the match.

3.      Awards and Points for the YTD Points Competition.

Match play is treated as a major, therefore all players get at least 50 participation points.  Players that make it to the 3rd round (Places 1st – 8th ) receive additional placement points.  This is a single elimination Match Play Tournament.  The 1st place winner will have to win 5 straight matches.

4.  The handicaps used for each match will specifically be the one that is posted after each round’s results.

5.  The final 32 players will be seeded into the Match Play Round Robin Sheet.  Seeds will be determined by the then current indexes.  DDGC index modifications under the Exceptional Tournament Performance clause may apply.  The lower your index, the lower your seed.  However, last year’s winner will be seeded #1.  Seeded play for Round 1 will be as follows:

Example:

#1 seed will play #32 seed.

#2 seed will play #31 seed.

#3 seed will play #30 seed, and so on.

6.  The higher-handicapped player will receive 80% of the difference between the NCGA handicaps of the two players, rounded to the nearest whole number.

Example:

Player A has a handicap of 22.4

Player B has a handicap of 13.7

Step 1:       22.4 – 13.7 = 8.7

Step 2:       80% of 8.7 = 6.96

Step 3:       6.96 rounded = 7

Step 4:       Player A gets 1 stroke on the 7 hardest holes.

7.  If 80% of the difference between two player’s handicaps includes a 0.5 fraction, then the rounding shall be upwards.

Example:

80% of the difference between the two player’s handicaps is 2.5.  The higher handicap player would receive 1 stroke on the 3 most difficult holes.

8.  If the 80% difference between course handicaps is greater than 18, then, one additional stroke will be added to the toughest holes until the difference is used up.

Example:

The 80% course handicap difference between Player C & D is 24 strokes.  The higher handicapped player will receive two strokes each on the six toughest holes, and one each on the remaining 12.

9.  If the match is all square after 18 holes, the players shall commence with a sudden death playoff starting with the 1st hole.  The match will continue until a player wins a hole.  In DDGC Match Play, the handicaps expire for the sudden death phase.  The playoff is based on availability at the course at that time.  The participating players will have to work out the logistics to determine a winner.  A putt-off may be an option for sudden death.

10.  It is your responsibility to know the rules of Match Play.
